We harvest at the exact moment

where the pineapple is perfect.

At Kiana Produce, the harvest isn't the end of the production process: it's the moment when all the dedication in the field translates into tangible quality. We protect our pineapples from before flowering and harvest them by hand at their optimal ripeness, ensuring that each fruit arrives at the packing facility—and eventually to the table—with the same integrity with which it was grown.

The proximity of our fields to the main consumer markets in North America allows us to harvest the MD2 pineapple at its optimal point of natural maturity, ensuring that each fruit expresses its full potential of aroma, flavor and nutritional value.

We harvest when the pineapple tells us to, not when the calendar says so.

FRUIT PROTECTION

PRE-HARVEST

To ensure that each MD2 pineapple reaches harvest free of physical damage and with the best possible internal quality, we protect our plants with plastic shade netting starting a month before flowering begins. This measure protects both the plants and the fruit from excessive solar radiation, which can burn and deform them; from various pests present during development and pre-harvest; and from the effects of sudden changes in temperature and humidity due to unexpected rain, strong winds, or hail.

FRUIT HANDLING IN

HARVEST AND POST-HARVEST

When a batch of fruit approaches commercial maturity, we begin daily monitoring to determine the precise harvest time, verifying that sugar, acidity, translucency, and color levels—both internal and external—meet the standards required by each client. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, and the fruit is immediately transported to the packing plant, taking care to avoid any bumps, tears, or crushing that could compromise the quality achieved in the field.

The plastic shade netting also provides a significant thermal benefit: at harvest time, the fruit has an internal temperature up to 5°C lower compared to conventional sun protection methods. This translates into more efficient cooling and lower energy consumption throughout post-harvest handling.

Every decision we make during the harvest — from shade netting to daily maturity monitoring — responds to a single commitment: that the pineapple that leaves our fields is the same one that arrives at its destination.

Each pineapple is harvested manually to preserve its integrity throughout the entire process.
Our fruits reached an average of 14° Brix, reflecting their optimal sweetness and ripeness.

At Kiana Produce, harvesting well is not a competitive advantage; it is our responsibility to every customer.
