The packing process we apply to our fruit has as its main objective the preservation of the pineapples’ precious, naturally grown characteristics achieved in the field, avoiding to damage the fruits by employing materials of the highest quality to provide the best protection, and making sure that the cold chain is maintained at appropriate programmed levels at all times.

Our pineapples are transported to international distribution and consumption centers through refrigerated containers with capacity of 22 pallets, guaranteeing the continuity of the cold chain and fruit quality until delivery to the wholesale customer, generally 36 hours after the fruit was still in countryside.

Reception to packing

To maintain the organoleptic characteristics attained in the field, our fruits are harvested at the lowest internal temperature possible. Thanks to the shading mesh protection. Our products go from the fields to their packaging materials without unnecessary sun exposure. Once the fruit is delivered to our facilities, it is disinfected and placed in chlorinated fresh water tubs, which initiate the cooling process.

Once our fruits are disinfected, they go through a cleaning and sanitizing treatment, after which they are waxed with natural ingredients.
After that, they are classified according to size and degree of maturity. Later on, they are packaged in high quality, durable cardboard boxes, and prepared for transportation. Each box has a 25 lbs. (11.5 kg) capacity and can hold between 5 to 10 fruits (according to size); they contain fruits with a high degree of uniformity, being free from defects and extraneous materials. Each box is weighed before being stacked in pallets for final distribution to marketing centers.

After harvesting, in about 36 hours our pineapples can already be found at points of sale

The pineapples of Kiana Produce have the best consistency, quality, sweetness, flavor and natural maturity

10° C is the ideal temperature to permit pineapples to maintain their freshness and integrity for the amount of time required for commercialization and consumption. This temperature has to be reached in an incremental, not sudden, manner, in order not to damage the fruit. To accomplish this, harvesting is done in the early hours of the morning. Fruits are protected against extreme solar radiation with a shading mesh and are further protected from direct sunlight exposure before being packaged.

After being packaged and palletized, they received a pre-cooling treatment in our air-forced tunnel where they are cooled down to 10° C. And, finally, they are placed in refrigerated chambers, which achieve to

keep the fruits at a desirable temperature, so later they are sent to the marketing centers inside our refrigerated containers.

To guarantee their reliable and efficient delivery to the marketing centers, our boxes are stacked in new wood pallets of 1907.44 lbs. (865.2 kg), each one containing 75 boxes of homogeneous fruits.

To guarantee that our shipments comply with the specifications required by clients, representative boxes of fruit are taken from each lot through a standardized sampling system, for analysis in our quality assurance laboratory.

We actively contribute to lower CO2 emissions

Transportation and delivery to clients

Our pineapples are shipped to international distribution centers in refrigerated containers with a capacity for 22 pallets. Each refrigerated container ensures that the cold chain remains unbroken and thus preserves fruit quality up to the point of delivery to our wholesale clients. Generally, this takes about 36 hours to delivery after being harvested in the fields.

Thanks to the close proximity between our production fields, in the state of Veracruz, and American consumer centers, our crops are the best option for the enjoyment of pineapples that have been harvested with the greatest degree of natural ripeness. Other countries’ products, such Central America and the Caribbean, never reach the natural flavor of ours because harvesting is done prematurely (up to 15 days before ripeness).

These pineapples with different origin than ours have to travel greater distances, require greater energy expenses, and therefore have a bigger carbon footprint than ours.  With this energy advantage, as well as many others savings achieved in our fields, Kiana Produce actively contributes to lower CO2 emissions.

PACKING
RECEPTION AND FRUIT SAMPLING
Once a batch of fruit reaches our packaging facilities, it is subject to a general inspection to verify that the requested client specifications have been met.
WASHING
Once the batch has been approved, the fruits are dipped in chlorinated fresh water for cleaning and disinfecting. This also initiates the cooling process.
DISINFECTION AND WAXING
After cleaning, our fruits undergo to a treatment of sanitizers and natural waxes. This process prevents dehydration and rotting, as well as preserving turgidity during shipment to distribution and marketing centers.
CLASSIFICATION, PACKAGING AND WEIGHING PROCESS
To improve commercialization and customer satisfaction levels, our fruits are classified according to weight and degree of ripeness; later, they are packaged in high quality, durable cardboard boxes with a capacity of 25 lbs. (11.5 kg.) According to the selected weight range, each box may contain between 5 to 10 units of equivalent caliber fruits. Every box contains fruit with a high degree of uniformity that is free of physical defects, extraneous materials, and damaged goods. The final weight of each box is verified before being palletized and shipped to marketing centers.
QUALITY CONTROL
Once the pineapples are properly packaged in boxes, our quality assurance laboratories certify that client specifications and quality requirements have been met by monitoring representative samples from each batch, for the desired quality and uniformity.
TAGGING AND TRACEABILITY
Every box has a barcode tag. The tags allow us to trace each box throughout the handling process, from the fields to the distribution centers.
PALLETIZING
For reliable and efficient shipping and handling of our products, the fruit boxes are stacked, in an orderly fashion, in pallets of up to 75 boxes (25 lbs. per box) of homogeneous fruits.
COOLING TUNNEL AND REFRIGERATION CHAMBER
After being packaged and palletized they received a pre-cooling treatment in our air-forced tunnel where they are cooled down to 10° C. Finally, they are placed in refrigerated chambers, which achieve to keep the fruits at a desirable temperature, so later they are sent to the marketing centers inside our refrigerated containers.
CONTAINER FREIGHT
Our fruits are transported by land to commercialization markets in our refrigerated containers with a capacity of 22 pallets; which guarantee that the chain of cold remains unbroken and the quality of our products is maintained pristine all the way to the wholesale retailer, arriving approximately 36 hours after being harvested.
